Having spent the past 50 years at Memorial Ground, we are hosting a special day full of activities for all to enjoy ...

This year is an important milestone in Wirral Rugby Club’s history as we have been at the Memorial Ground for 50 years. To celebrate this historic occasion, we are holding a grand reunion for all players from Wirral’s past who have made our club what it is today. Join us on Saturday 14th April, for a full day of celebrations.

We shall be gathering the entire Clubs memorabilia collection from across the last 50 years, to decorate the marquee (something not previously achieved) – showing present players what the Club was like in the past. It will also be an opportunity to reminisce about everyone’s fondest memories and times shared at the Club, whilst making new memories on such a unique and special day.

A special, not to be missed, highlight of the day will be a one-off Veteran’s warm up game, prior to the 1st XV game. Kick off for the Veterans will be at 11:00am, and will see the 1978 to 1980 1st XV squad challenge a yet to be confirmed opposition for the 50th Anniversary Trophy.

Of course we have made sure, that those playing in the special veterans match will also be able to join us for the celebratory pre match lunch, scheduled for before the 1st XV face Rossendale 1st XV in our last home game of the 2017/18 season. Of course this does mean a tough choice for VP, Ted Robbins, over whom to support – as many may know he is also a member of Rossendale.

We are planning to start lunch 12:30pm for 1:00pm sit down, with a 3-course lunch and fantastic entertainment. This exclusive event is priced at £25 per person or alternatively £250 for a table of 10, and also includes entry to both the Veterans and 1st XV game and your special 50th Anniversary match day programme.

For me, as President of the club and a past player, I see the day as the perfect opportunity to see and remember all the fantastic players who have played for the Club across the years, listen to their memories and join them celebrating our special club. I played with nearly 500 players in the first team across my playing career, from 1976 to 2006, and it would be fantastic to get 50% of them to come and share their memories with us.

Sadly, I don’t think most of us with see our Centenary year at the Memorial Ground so let’s make this one great!

In order to make this event a success, we want as many past players as possible to attend. As the saying goes - the more, the merrier. All profits made on the event are going towards our Wirral at the Heart of the Community Project, of which more information regarding the project is available on the Club Website.

If anybody is available to help to get their old playing mates to have a table with them, please let me know ASAP, we are expecting this event to be an extremely popular.

In order to reserve your tickets or table, please get in touch with either myself (admin@firtree.uk.com); Dave Harvey (07773 770 384) or Graham Haslett (07854 301 466).
