This will be followed by an interesting starting month in the league. Home games against Leigh (who won at the Memorial Ground last year) and the runaway Champions of South Lancs/Cheshire 1 (Sale) will prove stern tests for Wirral. It doesn't get any easier with September's away games either with games against a side who up until recently were in the higher echelons of the National Leagues (Manchester) and a Widnes side who finished the league last year in third position and will be anxious to avenge the double Wirral achieved over them last year.
