Rugby Update

Another good weekend for the club saw our 1s confirm their position in 4th place with a comfortable 24-12 win against Penrith. It was a great game and both teams ran the ball excellently, with some great defensive work keeping the scores down. The wind didn’t help, but big shout out to both teams for entertaining a big crowd. Anselmians confirmed their status in the League and with Birkenhead Park gaining promotion, we can look forward to 4 massive Derby games next season, which are always good for supporters and players.
With a week off this Saturday, we return to the Memorial Ground for the last League game of the season against Rossendale, who can still win the League, after being beaten away earlier in the season, our lads will need no motivating in a massive game.
Our 2s travelled to Fylde, losing 25-7 in another excellent performance and entertain Rossendale on 6th April. With 3 remaining games all at home, the boys will be working and training hard to stay in the topflight League for another season, they are all winnable so keep up the great effort boys and let`s have a strong finish to a very tough season.
Our 3s travelled across the water to play Liverpool Collegiate 2nd XV and came home with a magnificent 12-5 victory, we stay 2nd in the League and with a Cup Final ahead, stand every chance of a mighty double.

Quote from Lord Fields
“At times our defence was as good as I’ve ever seen, great spirit, great debuts for the young lads and they didn’t take a backward step. Great to still be involved and proud that we rose above the antics of some.”

Quote from Antony Williams (older established player)
“Great game for us that. The young lads where superb, need these to replace some of the more Senior less athletic, but still genuinely attractive players.”

Not the exact quote, but I would not want to see our Lordship or Antony come under the scrutiny of our RFU.
A week off for the boys, with Prenton 2nd XV coming to us on Saturday 6th April.

M&J`s Update

There were some big games home and away on Sunday, unfortunately in the 3 semi-finals we were slightly out played, however a big thanks to all involved who made the club busy and were very sporting with the away teams. Sometimes rugby is not all about winning but being involved in a tough but fantastic sport and being with your parents and mates. I am very proud of all our teams, their coaches, and supporters, who continue to make our Mini and Junior rugby section a fantastic section to be involved with both on and off the pitch.
Although the U15s were unsuccessful in their semi-final this week, George Stuart brought me the Caldy Festival Trophy winners cup, which is now proudly behind the bar. Well done to all the boys and coaches in another tremendous achievement.
We are still involved in many finals over the next few weeks so let`s keep up the good work and bring some trophies back to the Memorial Ground.

Club Update

Everything moving positively at the club, thanks again to all committees who are so pro-active in developing our facilities, with the new addition to the patio on its way, the club will go from strength to strength.
We continue to be a main attraction for functions and another on Saturday helping us to afford these improvements. If you do need to hire the venue for any occasion, please do not hesitate to contact me or pass my details on.
