PREVIEW: Huddersfield v Wirral 1XV
This weekend sees Wirral travel away to Huddersfield, who currently sit at the top of the league.
Wirral 1XV saw their last game against Waterloo postponed after twenty minutes of play, due to an injury to one of the Waterloo players. However prior to this they had lost away to Hull, 38 – 5, and won at home against Billingham, 32-17, and away at Kendal, 48-5. So far this season Wirral have only lost three away games, at Sandal, Billingham and Hull. Currently on the hunt for promotion, Wirral are sitting in 4th place within the league, 12 points behind Rossendale and 3 points behind Hull, with one game in lieu.
Huddersfield RUFC are coming into this week’s game following a win at home to Ilkley, 59-7. Huddersfield has not been beaten all season and they sit comfortably at the top of the league, 14 points ahead of 2nd place Rossendale.
This will be only the second meeting of the sides, as Huddersfield only got relegated last season from National League 2 North. The last game between the pair was a tense battle at home for Wirral, which they narrowly lost 10-16 – the smallest score Huddersfield have won by all season. Tomorrow’s game is sure to be a close and tense game, as Wirral look to secure the win they so narrowly missed out on earlier in the season.
