Report lifted from Vagas website gives impression that Wirral were fortunate to win (43-0!)

Obviously I did not attend the game – for my sins I watched the England game on the TV. There is, however, a report on the Vagabonds website. It makes interesting reading so I have copied it below.

Continent 8 Vagabonds played host to Wirral this weekend and suffered a further blow to their season hopes. With weather conditions reaking havoc and disrupting game preparations for both sides, it was a credit to the hard work of numerous individuals at the club that the game went ahead. Not suprisingly, the appauling conditions did not provide opportunity for flowing rugby, and it was one of those days for sticking it up the jumper and keeping it tight. In parts Vagas had the beating of their opposition, with set pieces once again proving to be highly effective. The Vagas lineout in particular was successful all day long, with Greg Whyte being lifted with relative ease and then driven upon landing. On numerous occasions, Vagas forwards drove mauls twenty of thirty meters, only to find that once the Wirral line was in sight, the momentum came to an end. Wirral's youthful and fiercely competitive side, in particular their back row made life difficult for Vagas. A series of breakaway tries and quick turnovers led to the away side winning the game 43-0. This score was by no means a far reflection of the encounter, with Vagas feeling aggrieved for not being rewarded with any points for all their hard graft. All at the club are aware that although positive in parts, the performance exposed a lot of areas in which improvements are needed, and fast. With a week of this coming weekend, vagas will be hoping that the rest will provide opportunity for niggling injuries to recover, just in time for the squad to hit the ground running over the festive period and climb out of the relegation battle that they are increasingly finding themselves involved in.

It would appear that, despite the fact that Vagabonds dominated the game, we somehow scrape a win....by 43 points to nil!!! So well done to the lads......lets hope that other sides dominate them in the same way as Vagabonds did!
