St Edwards 2nd XV who have been promoted twice in two seasons came up against a team used to the rough and tumble of league 3.

With St Eddies 1's at home as well, the 2nd XV were bumped to the second pitch, which was not as flat Wirral's new front pitch's, but its green and has posts at each end, what more could you wish for. After the last two weeks thrashing's Wirral were looking to bounce back. Unfortunately St Eddies Scored first in the corner after some sloppy tackling. Wirral fought back and started to make in roads into St Eddies stout defence. Several promising breakaways were thwarted by excellent last minute tackling. However after one unsavoury moment, Wirral were down to 14 men and so were St eddies. Wirral's own Wing Commander Biggles, Nick Kennedy carried off with knee ligament damage (as prescribed by our own Dr Quincy, Andy Bell) and St Eddies lad for a somewhat high tackle (but only for ten mins).

Wirral pushed for a score and were almost immediately rewarded only to be denied short of the line. Eventually Wirral did cross with a typical bulldozing try from young Jack Fitzmaurice, converted from the unusual source of Mike Stewart. Wirral were now 5-7 up !

Our joy was short lived as St Eddies conjured up a try from nowhere, just before half time and converted. 12-7 to St Eddies.

The second half fortunately did not start as the 1st had finished. Wirral won a penalty and despite protests from the forward the aging and tired capt asked our new found kicker to knock the ball over. 12 -10. Gap closing ! With careful management of the players and poor Ripper having to cover both wing's Wirral started to take command of the game, numerous driving mauls excellently executed to gain 30 or 40 yards at a time and tire out the St Eddies forwards eventually resulted in Ross Hughes burrowing over to take Wirral into the lead. Conversion missed but score 12-15.

With Wirral dominance in the line out almost over whelming, every opportunity was taken to kick the ball into the opposing half and get line outs. From one of these line outs Wirral were awarded a further penalty which Mick 'Jonny W' Stewart casually knocked over. 12-18 and we were a score ahead.

Late St Eddies pressure nearly resulted in a try but a string of outstanding tackle's by MOM Lewis Stevenson who almost folded their centre in half prevented any further progress.

Final score Wirral 3's 18 - St Edwards 2's 12.

Special mentions must go to the forwards who were immense especially Ludbrooke, who played 8, lead the mauls, jumped in the line and above all played wing on St Eddies scrum put'ins to prevent a blindside attack.
