What a day !

With the clocks going back, the games needed to kick off early ! 2:15 to be exact. Unfortunately the Ref coming from Southport got delayed and we did not start until 2:35 ! (Yes this will have some bearing on the later stages of the report !) With Wirral playing up the slight slope against a determined team the scores switched back and forth, both sides getting a brace of tries and a conversion each. Fortunately just before half time, a sweeping move from Wirrals own try line, resulted in a try in the corner, with the conversion missed Wirral went into the second half 17-12 up !

Second half was a different story, with the slight hill, even the old coffin dodger at 10 (for Wirral that is) managed for once to put the ball into promising positions even finding touch occasionally. As the pressure mounted, Wirral ran in a further 3 tries before the ref called in the capt's. As I mentioned before the late start might be cause for concern and it did. The two capt's having to find their way to the ref by sound alone as it was as black as 'Hades' (that's Greek mythology for Hell to the uninitiated). Then the rain came down !and it got messy and we got wet and it got darker and we got even wetter ! not sure how but we did, you know that really wet feeling when even your undies are soaked ! Well by then we were all fed up, young Stewart fell over and hurt his leg and we called it a game. 5 mins to go, all wet, girly back lying injured, only a set amount of hot water in the showers and beer calling from the bar, Final result Wirral 38 - Winnington Park 12. Look forward to going over there in the new year, hopefully in the day light !
