Thirds suffer at the hands of opposition in a tough October

Well after an unbeaten September it was with much anticipation we went to Crewe and Nantwich to play their 2nd XV. After good battles with their 3rd XV a few years ago we anticipated a tough match. Playing at Centre young Liam Beamish who seems to be getting as injured as the Hodson bro’s had a storming game sticking C&N’s large full back on his arse on more than a half dozen occasions. The forward were their normal dominate selves and we turned round 27 -0 up. This is when it went wrong. Liam went off with breathing difficulties (I think it was because he had to pay his own subs this year) and our very own Inspector Clouseau decided that his knee was hurting and could not run oh yes and some useless pratt of a player was at full back (yes ME !). We then surrendered forward possession in dangerous areas (for some reason the ref seemed to think that it was OK to use your hands in the rucks but only if you were for C&N) and the useless full back missed 4 tackles. C&N eventually won 35-27 !!!!
The following week without numerous players we sent an a team of forwards and a couple of backs to Sandbach 3rd’s who were flying high at the top of the table. Once again we have enjoyed close games with our Cheshire set friends but this time we lost out 47 – 17.
We had a free week the following week as Liverpool St.Helens all went to the Grand Final.
Next up was Caldy 3’s and you can read that entertaining report elsewhere on our web site.
Last weekend was a chance to again play one of the teams that have moved up the leagues with us, Winnington Park 3rd XV. With almost a full senior team sprinkled with gifted Colts we eventually drew 19-19 which considering our supply of players was a good result. The Man of the month however must go to Gary ‘Bones’ McCoy who has managed to make the no 8 berth his own, moving one of the senior ginger brigade ‘Sav’ to blind side. Bones has scored 3 tries in the last two games, some how we can get that into either buying a Jug or Jug evasion. Villans of the month must surely go to the Capt and vice capt, firstly for Gas only playing once this season for his team and Me for losing us the Crewe game. Still onwards and upwards with November here we are close to the bottom of the league and need to pull out all the stops like last year and make a concerted effort to move up the league.
