Wirral U13 hosted Chester U13 on a clear and fresh Remembrance Sunday.
Both teams paid their respects to the fallen in a well observed two minute silence following the first third of the game.
Wirral started very strong in the first third. With Chester having little response to Leon's barn-storming runs that resulted in him bagging 4 tries in this period. At the first break, Wirral led 5-0, with the fifth try coming from Harvey.
The Wirralians seemed to relax a little in the second third, allowing Chester to start playing some rugby - which resulted in their first try of the game. Chester challenged strongly at every breakdown, but the Wirral tight five provided good shielding to fight the threat - and snappy passing from scrum half Dom kept the ball from the danger areas. Wirral responded with four touchdowns, with tries coming from Vinny, Leon, Harvey and full-back Luke N. The latter, being fresh back from recovering from a hand injury, ran devastating lines throughout the game - breaching the Chester defence time and time again.
Chester continued to gain confidence in the final third, scoring two tries. Wirral however, regained their energy in the latter stages, scoring three tries. The first two were dotted down by Leon and Dom. The final try came from good hands from the Wirral forwards playing out wide with hooker Ioan giving a well timed pass to put No.8 Tom in at the corner.
Final score: Wirral 12 - Chester 3
Wirral scorers: Tom, Dom, Vinny, Leon (6), Harvey (2), Luke N
