A chill wind across the Spinney Crescent ground kept spectating parents' feet stomping - but it was the rugby that kept their hands clapping.

Wirral's squad of 16 were still without the services of injured Luke, Luke, Ethan and Will; but were happy to welcome new recruit Tyler to their ranks.

The Waterloo referee gathered both teams in before the match to set expectations.

Wirral played an aggressive game - from the smallest, to the largest players on the pitch.

Tries were scored in alternation between the two teams, but it was Waterloo who always managed to keep ahead.

Countless promising attacks by the Wirralians were stymied by Waterloo winning seemingly impossible possession from the depths of the ruck.

Wirral managed to claw back to 6-5, with a touchdown by Number 10 Kai who was given a little extra oomph when Ioan grabbed a few forwards to put their shoulders in.

At 6-5 down, Wirral appeared to have a chance to equalise when winger, Ethan J, chased a kick from fly-half Kai - only to be deemed off-side by the official.

Minutes later, Waterloo sealed the game with a final try to make it 7-5.

Despite the result, it was another great team performance by Wirral - with everyone playing for each other.
