Wirral post a convincing victory at Cockermouth. Cockermouth 6 Wirral 52

Wirral Junior Colts boarded the coach very early Sunday morning for the long journey to Cockermouth. Some of the lads had obviously decided to dispense with going to bed on Saturday and joined us direct from wherever they partied the night before - oh the joys of coaching teenagers! The journey was quiet apart from the odd snore and after a brief stop for breakfast (nice to see the finely tuned athletes tucking into the full english healthy option with added lard)we arrived at Cockermouth.

A good warm up was required if nothing else to get last weeks disaster of a game out of the system.

The squad a bit depleted went about the game in an enthusiastic fashion against a game home team who to their credit never gave in and kept trying to break through Wirrals defence all game. The scoreline would suggest this was a one sided affair but that was not the case and the Wirral lads were made to work hard for all their points

The usual suspects got on the score sheet today, Ben McGuigan continues to rack up his try tally - not surprised today because he must have felt 2 stone lighter when he left the changing room - the lads will get this. If there is another player at the club with more tries so far this season I would be surprised - Ben has 8 in 6 matches. Other not so usual suspects also activated the score board today well done to Matt Taylor (playing out of position on the wing) and Elliot Upton who scored his annual try. Mason Tyler Holland was his usual reliable self with conversions apart from one in front of the posts which he miscued - remember Mason the easy ones are the hardest.

The game was sensibly refereed in an effort to keep both teams interested.

The after match fun and games were great, Cockermouth are a proper rugby club, gracious in defeat and made us all feel very welcome - we look forward to seeing you later in the season when we can reciprocate your fine hospitality.

The journey home was more lively with more fun and games and even time for the lads to have yet more healthy option service station food on the way back - a diet coke does not count as part of a balanced meal.

And so back to winning ways for the Junior Colts - bring on Lymm.
