Sam, who plays scrum half for Chester Gladiators Rugby League Club during the Summer months was selected following the Rugby League Conference Regional Championships which took place on Monday 30th May in Derby.

The England Lionhearts are the representative side of the Rugby League Conference and will play three matches this summer - at home against Scotland (25 June, Stanningley), Ireland (16 July, Hemel) and an away trip to Wales on 6 August.

England Lionhearts Coach Rod Steele said: "The squad looks well balanced and we hope to build on the foundations laid last year."

Seven regions took part in the RLC Regional Championships, which was played at Haslams in Derby, with around 175 players from across England hoping to earn an England Lionhearts call-up.

The Lionhearts squad is comprised of five players from Eastern teams, four from the Midlands, four from the North West, five from the South East, two from the South West and one each from Yorkshire and the North East.

RFL Regional Manager for London, East and South East, Dan Steel said: “We were happy with the level of the regional competition which showed a big improvement in quality on last year despite the poor weather.”

“It was good to see strong representation from developing areas and this is reflected in a strong looking squad.

“It’s a great opportunity for players across the country to represent England, and put themselves in the shop window for the England Community Lions.”
