The Club is sad to announce the passing of Old-Wirralian Dr Rob Atlay.

Chris Gerrard kindly provided the following:

Dr Robert Atlay - In Memoriam

In his professional life Rob was a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for over forty years.
He served as Medical Director of Liverpool Women`s Hospital and as Chairman of The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Liverpool. He was a member of The Council of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for more than twenty years serving as secretary for seven years.

He was appointed High Sheriff of Merseyside by the Queen for the years 2003/4 and has
been a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Merseyside since 2013.

Rob attended Wirral Grammar School for Boys and was Captain of the 1st XV Rugby Team (he also captained the cricket, swimming and athletics teams). Whilst attending Liverpool University he went on to captain The Old Wirralians rugby club (now Wirral) and eventually became a school governor.

Rugby played a big part in Rob`s social life and his professional career took him through Nottingham and Sheffield and he became a member of both Rugby Clubs.

He settled back in Liverpool, however, and joined Waterloo Rugby Club when they were still one of the foremost clubs in the country. He eventually became Chairman of Rugby at Waterloo and their President, an honour he cherished above all others.

He has enjoyed a wonderful life and leaves behind him many many friends.
