Match Reports
Wirral 1s v Stockport – Saturday 20th December
WIRRAL 37 STOCKPORT 26
It was a much-needed win for us on Saturday and to be fair it has been coming.
With the added spice of a leaked team sheet during the week and the fact Stockport didn’t train on Thursday but went out on the ale, really fired the lads up and the disrespect shown by them needed to be punished.

We started poorly however and conceded the first 2 tries. Both coming from the only way Stockport know how to score, catch and drive then flop over the line… boring.

We then hit back with a well worked try from Tom Croft. However, Stockport scored next with yep, you’ve guessed it, a pick and go close to the line.

We then decided to play, and this is exactly what we did. The forwards were dominant up front and two tries came next from Ben brooks and Hayden long. Both coming after some slick edge to edge handling and some much-needed exciting rugby which brought half time.

Wirral scored first after the half with Zane Pretorious grabbing his first score showing some strength. Matty Ringer followed that in with a try of his own and in true Stockport style it was a pick and go.

This killed Stockport off and Rhys James slotted a 40+ meter penalty to deprive Stockport of any points on home turf.

Great performance, and hopefully a turning point going into the new year.

Senior Colts v Rochdale – Sunday 20th December
WIRRAL (Wigulls) 18 ROCHDALE 19

The mighty Wigulls played a strong Rochdale team this week, with the lads showing grit and determination throughout, something the coaches were very happy to see, after a few tough results in recent weeks.

Rochdale ended up victors, with the score being 19-18 to the visitors.
Wigulls were in control of the game for the majority, being 18-7 up at one point, however a slight dip towards the end and a spirited comeback from Rochdale left our lads devastated.

Despite this, the lads had a great social afterwards. Many thanks to Alex and Julie Knox of Hoylake who organised all this. A disappointing end to what has been a hugely successful year for the lads, looking forward to what the new year has to offer.

From the coaches of the Wigulls, wish you all a very merry Christmas!

Vic Proudman Cup – Saturday 27th December
Going to try a different approach to try allow as many people as possible to get involved and also reduce any potential injuries!

Format will be a 10 a side full pitch touch rugby match. (Not England touch, just the touch you’d play at training). Everyone (ladies and gents) welcome to get involved, we will have rolling subs so everyone can play as little or a much as they want.

Will kick off at 11 and play two 30 min half’s. After that we will be back in the bar for the usual court session led by his honour (Greg).

Always a good laugh and a good way to run off all the turkey and mince pies! More info to follow next week. Please contact Josh Connolly if you are interested in playing

Wirral Tigers Touch Rugby

The Tigers have gone indoors for winter with a much-earned break and are set to return in February 2026 with sessions booked on Wednesday evenings (8pm - 9pm) at Vauxhalls. Tigers now have a well-established core of regulars, many of whom are current or retired Wirral RUFC senior players, and we're also developing a great core of women players.
Touch Rugby is a mixed-sex sport, so there is no need for separate men's or women's teams. This makes it a fairly unique sport and something we're keen to develop further. It's also a fantastic way to get or stay fit while remaining part of the rugby community. Games are fast-paced, end-to-end stuff, 6-a-side with rolling subs, and at the elite level, it's pushing for a place at the 2027 Olympics in Australia. The southern hemisphere has been playing this form of touch rugby for many years, with many league or union internationals starting or finishing their careers this way. We welcome new players for 2026. Our sessions are adult-based currently, and if interested, please get in touch with Jezz Ellis at jezzellis@gmail.com or drop him a message on 07789403742.

Weekend,
From 10am on Thursday 22nd January 2026, clubs will have the opportunity to go online
and buy tickets for the three home pool games in November as shown below:

If you want to apply for tickets for any of the games please email me

to apply for, how many tickets you want and your preferred price category. I anticipate that
there will be a further opportunity to buy tickets after 22 January (particularly for the finals
weekend) but I cannot guarantee this

The RFU are once again operating a paperless ticket system whereby tickets will be sent to
your phone. If you are allocated tickets you will receive an email from the RFU with a link to
enable you to purchase the tickets. To enable you to do so you will need to download the
Twickenham App. Full details will be in the email. The email will also set out a deadline by
which you must do so. It is your responsibility to do this. If you do not purchase your tickets
by the set deadline the allocation will lapse. I may be able to reapply on your behalf but
there is always a danger that all the tickets will be gone. Once you receive your tickets
you will be able to transfer them to other people in your party
All tickets ordered and supplied are subject to the RFU Tickets terms and conditions a copy
of which is available from me on request.

The tickets are for your personal use and should only be used by you together with your
family, friends or colleagues. If any of the club tickets are discovered on the black market the
RFU may sanction the club which may lead to a loss of our allocation. A common reason
why tickets end up on the black market is that someone is let down at the last minute and
then sells the tickets near the stadium at face value or even gives the ticket away free of
charge to avoid it going to waste to someone that they believe is “a genuine fan”. Any
member who is found to have disposed of tickets to a tout will then face disciplinary action.
