Large crowds are expected at Neston Cricket Club’s picturesque ground in Parkgate on Sunday 14th of July for the forthcoming Rugby League legends v Rugby Union Legends T 20 Cricket Match. The Brain child of form England Rugby International player and Coach Dick Greenwood whose son Will is expected to line up in a star studded Rugby Union line up. The event is being organised to raise valuable funds for “Wooden Spoon“the children’s charity of rugby.
Local Interest will focus on the inclusion of ex-Wirral player and former England International Matt Cairns, who also played for Harlequins, Saracens & Sales Sharks before recently returning to the Wirral with his family to live. He will be joined in the Rugby Union line up by Matt Holt the Australian born Queensland red who went onto play for Waterloo and Leeds Tykes before finishing his career at Caldy Rugby Club.
The Rugby League line up also consists of a combination of past and presents stars which will include Andy Gregory one of the true legends of the Rugby League Code. In a 15 year professional career, he made over 400 1st team appearances in spells at Widnes, Warrington & Wigan and for Great Britain.
There will be a strong St Helens influence in the League team including Paul Wellens the Current St Helens & Great Britain player who is only one of three men in the history of the game to have won both the Lance Todd trophy and the Man of Steel award. He will be joined by the Samoan giant and fellow Saint Francis Meli .
Admission on the day is adults £5, children under 16 free. Gates open at 1pm for a 2.30 start. Car parking is free and food and drink will be available.
