Wirral defeated neighbours Caldy 21-17 in what was a tight affair last weekend and host National One side Sale FC this weekend at the Memorial ground.

The win against Caldy was deserved and has boosted confidence among the players for the season ahead. Coach Simon Verbickas was happy with the performance and effort from all of the players involved. Although there are areas for improvement, it was a good run out against tough opposition who played two leagues above last season.

This weekend’s opposition is Sale FC. They won the Cheshire Cup last season, beating Chester in the final. Sale have won the competition once more back in 2014. It is clear they take the competition seriously and are expected to bring a strong squad to the Memorial ground this Saturday.

Sale have signed Jarad Williams from Bedford Blues and Jeremey Toa from Oyannax for the forthcoming season. They will join the likes of former Premiership players Jonny Leota and Tom Brady in their push for Championship Rugby at Haywood Road.

Wirral have a big squad to select from with Rob Pearl, Ryan Higginson, Joe Murray, Matty Ringer, Ryan Stead and newcomer Joe Probert all available for selection. All the players have been training hard and are ready to stake a claim to be on the bus for the first game of the season away at Billingham.
