Senior Rugby Update
The current climate of English rugby was witnessed on Saturday, Burnage “cried off”
due to lack of players, I think this was due to the game being called off 2 weeks ago due
to a waterlogged pitch. We get the points, however, this again meant no rugby at the
club, another financial disaster for us. The 3 rd team produced an excellent side to travel
to Lindley (Stoke somewhere!!), however Lindley cried off, due to lack of numbers, so
again we got the points. This is all very upsetting, but also frustrating to the players that
make themselves available only to find out Saturday rugby has all been cancelled.
We then watched the debacle of England v France, after some very entertaining 6
Nation games involving the other nations, a great day for the mighty Italy!!
I have become very frustrated watching England under the Australian coach Mr E
Jones, who seems to have no idea about the current game and strategies. I am not the
only one.
Email to the RFU from Mark Cornford, legendary ex player and dancer, been known to
drink a few Guinness at the club on a few occasions.
“Help Request Description:
I feel obliged as a level 2 coach, who has been involved in rugby for 40 years, to voice my opinion of the continuing pathetic coaching of the fantastic pool of players available to England. I have thought it for about 2 years now and I feel it now needs to come to a head! We have the largest /best pool of players in the world! Why the hell are we picking players out of position? Why are we stunting players natural ability by telling them to play in a certain way! Why are we constantly box kicking? I am so furious about how we are picking our best 15 just over a year from a world cup!! Someone needs to stand up and say how poor we are ! I'm not seeing that from the RFU, so, so weak. Sort it out. I hope this gets forwarded to the right department.
I would be pleased to receive a reply from someone who understands rugby rather than a standard reply by a robot please!
Many thanks
Mark.”
Reply from the RFU
“Dear Mark
Thank you for contacting Rugby Football Union.
We appreciate that you have taken the time to let us know your thoughts about Eddie Jones.
Public Feedback is important to us, and we welcome all comments.
Kind Regards
Jack
Rugby Football Union Enquiries.”
So, if you have anything to say regarding Jones please act accordingly.
A full Saturday of matches sees all the teams involved in League games, hopefully we
can fulfil all our fixtures, so please support the coaches and captains and make it a
great weekend. Please note that the 1st team game at Preston is a 2.30pm kick off.

Girls’ rugby update
On Sunday 20th March, Wirral Girls hosted the U13 and U15 Girls from Caldy for a mini warrior joint training session, followed by some games, to build on the skills that had been developed, as Caldy don’t have any U18 Girls, our 18s played an internal training game. It was great to see such great skills and commitment from both sets of girls.  The 8 Wirral coaches and 4 Caldy coaches shared to load, co-delivering sessions for all three age groups focused on managing contact and tackling technique.
Next week we are training on Thursday 19:00 to 20:15 and Sunday 11:00 to 12:15 at the club.
On Sunday 3rd April 11:00 to 12:30 we are holding a transition session to welcome the girls from local schools who have been part of our girl’s school’s community programme in partnership with Sale Sharks Women. We would welcome any girls who would like to give rugby a try.
If you would like more information on girls’ rugby, please call Steve Peters on 07764 960411

Message from our Australian friends, whose season is just beginning “happy to be back
playing, see you all soon,” Mike “Pom, 3 lips” Begg. We have a great affinity with this
team, and it is great to see some of the old faces still putting their boots on. A massive
shout out to our friends over the pond and perhaps when you are over, you could do us
all a favour and take your mate Jones back to where he belongs. See photos here

Finally, a big thankyou to all the coaches, players and supporters at all levels of rugby
for your support at these difficult times.

Kind regards
