Senior Rugby Report
Our 2 nd team travelled to Sedgley Park for their Cup final against Birkenhead Park, with great support the boys were looking forward to the game. After a great start and taking a 21-0 lead, the game ended 24-24. Extra time was 10 minutes each half and in an exciting game, we finally succumbed to Park 37-31.
Well done to all involved with the 2nd team this season, so close to a league and Cup double, but we should still be very proud of our achievements. There is a lot of talent at this club and the 2nd team will go from strength to strength.

Senior Cricket Report
Our 1st XI travelled to Wilmslow and needed something to bring back, in a very exciting game we managed to tie the game, but it was disappointing not to win after bowling Wilmslow out for 112 (Jack Cureton 4/30 and Jehangir Afridi 3/13 were the pick of our bowlers). In reply we batted well, but lost wickets, despite 29 by Sam O`Connell and 25 by Jahangir, we lost a wicket with the last ball of the day to get the tie. Unlucky boys, but we did return with points against the top ranked side.
Our 2`s entertained Oxton and had a magnificent victory to see them move 6th in the league, a fantastic knock of 67 by the evergreen Ray Peel, saw us reach 157. Wes Stephens held the innings together with a great 14 Not Out, clearly the Captain Morgan’s is working well! Oxton were seen off for 61 with Ronny Gambles finishing with 6/30 off 10 overs, the only good thing in a very bad day for the Mancunian lad from Old Trafford Way. Well done to all involved and great to see some positive results.
The cricket season is now well and truly underway, so please get down to the club and support the lads.

Mini and Juniors Presentation Day
After the very successful annual rugby dinner, the M&J`s had their presentation day on Sunday. All the age groups enjoyed a fantastic day, rounded off with the annual fancy dress game, Batman beat Scooby Doo in the very entertaining game. The section has had an amazing season and I would like to thank all involved. Here are a few of the messages that were sent after Sunday’s event.
“I’d just like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who make the club tick, Bev and Skinny for club, tuck and kit. Sarah for being an amazing supportive chairwoman, Gareth for pitch allocation, Noah on fixtures, Anne for GMS and registration and all the other coaches and admin people who go the extra mile with your free time to make the kids and young men/women enjoy their Sunday rugby .”
”Lots and lots of people, doing the best that they can, to create a positive environment. Feels good to be part of the team ❤️❤️”
“We are only as good as our volunteers.  Thank you all, we are all part of a great club. You have all helped make us the premier Wirral club for boys and girls rugby. Only Caldy have more members and they don’t offer all girls age groups or both Colts ages each week.
Parents and players would vote with their feet, more today than ever.  Coaches and team managers are all making sure our rugby product is on point every Sunday.  Support volunteers making it all compliant and give the icing on the cake with a welcoming clubhouse. Make sure everyone has a break, follow out of season activity guidelines and let’s make 2022-23 even better.”
A massive shout out to all the coaches, players and parents on a great season and look forward to seeing you all on Sunday 11th September for registration day. Have a great break and enjoy the post season, ready for another successful 2022-23.

Wirral Girls Rugby
End of Season Report 2021-2022

From its inception in September 2019 with three girls who had played mini rugby, the Girls Rugby Section found their first two seasons disrupted by lockdowns. This season is the girls first ever full season.
We now have players from seven different schools, and over 35 girls have played across three age groups at U13, U15 and U18. We have developed school club links and delivered rugby to girls in several local primary and secondary schools; also working with Sale Sharks Community team to deliver “Girls Tackle Rugby”.
With regular inter club fixtures for girls hard to find for new teams, we joined the Greater Manchester Girls Rugby Network which enables clubs without full squads to take however many girls they have to regular festivals every couple of weeks and combine with other clubs to make up teams to play games. While this has involved some more travelling, it has really helped develop our girls.
Cheshire RFU held trials for U18 girls in March and U15 girls in April, which were attended by several Wirral girls, all of whom more than held their own against more experienced girls from other clubs. We are very proud of Kaitlin Durn who was selected for the U18s and Ellie Peters who was selected for U15s.
Huge thanks are due to all the girls for their hard work, their parents for their support and the coaches for their commitment throughout the season.
In September, to help to grow the game, the RFU have changed the Girls age bands to U12, U14, U16 and U18 so we will be running school programmes and taster sessions to recruit new players in July and September.
After a successful season, Girl’s training will take a break until Sunday 3rd July, 11:00. - 12:15. New players are always welcome. If you would like any more information about girls’ rugby, please contact Steve Peters on 07764 960411.

There was a very successful and well attended Rugby Club dinner on Saturday, this week sees the Annual Liverpool and District Referees Dinner, with Wayne Barnes as the guest speaker. It is also the Wirral Club Ball on Saturday, with many other events also happening in another busy week ahead.
That is it for rugby until pre-season in July, so to all the players, coaches and volunteers, have a well deserved break and I look forward to seeing you all for the 2022-23 season.

Kind regards
