Wirral are at home against national 2 Caldy in the Cheshire Cup this weekend.

Rugby is back this weekend at the memorial ground with a few new and old faces returning for the upcoming season.

We welcome the new coach, Simon Verbickas, ex Caldy and Sandbach, who brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience with him, he is assisted by Keith Mahon, a crowd and club favorite. We have a new physio team with Leigh Halftek making the switch from Caldy with Chris Malkin going in the opposite direction.

Our opponents this week are led by Wirrals former coach Matt Cairns. Caldy have had 3 pre season fixtures going into this weekend with their aim to get promotion back into national 1.

The Wirral squad welcomes back Chris Hughes and Josh Stead after short stints with neighbors Anselmians. The squad has also kept all of their players from last season adding to it lads returning from university and local students from Chester University, some of whom go straight into the squad this weekend. Matt Loons is also added to the squad making a quick U-Turn from retirement.

Players and alicadoos from both clubs will no doubt be out in force and will hope for a tough spectacle when these two local teams go at it for 80 mins, the winners playing Sale FC next weekend and the losing team face another local derby vs Birkenhead Park, also next weekend.

Kick off is at 3pm. Gates will be open from 1pm, come down and show your support and enjoy the start of the bank holiday weekend with some beers.

Good Luck to those in the match day squad!
