No joy in the North East again
Unfortunately I was unable to travel to Blaydon to watch the game.
Wirral had to make changes from last week due to work commitments, injury and unavailability but nevertheless a strong team compared to recent weeks was sent. WILLIAM HIRSTWOOD made his debut in the front row as JACK YARKER pulled his hamstring last week (unusual for a prop to have such an injury!), the rest of the pack was as last week. JOSH STEAD and CHRIS CROWLEY formed a new half-back partnership with DAVE KING joining SAM BROADBENT in the centre and JOE PROBERT starting on the wing and JOSH CONNOLLY at full back. From the team originally selected there was a change to the bench with FRED CLARK, LIAM KEANE and MIKE WARREN travelling.
From the match card, Blaydon opened the scoring in the 14th minute through wing forward Jack Davidson with Wirral equalising 3 minutes later through CHRIS CROWLEY. In the period up to half time, the home side scored two more tries through jack Davidson and Fred Lockwood with one conversion to leave the score 17-5 at the break.
Two more Blaydon tries were scored through Sean Pyle and Jack Appleton with one conversion before Wirral scored again through ROB PEARL to bring the score to 29-10 after 58 minutes. In the final quarter Blaydon ran in three more tries through Nathan Bailey. Robert Lenderyou and in the last minute, Harry Borthwick.
Wirral’s next match is at home on February 1st against fellow strugglers Morpeth with kick off reverting back to 2.15pm.
