Wirral 2nd XV delivered a commanding performance to see off Chester 2nd XV 40–19, producing a dominant display that was built on forward power and relentless physicality.
The visitors opened the scoring early, capitalising on a couple of uncharacteristic Wirral mistakes, but that served only to sharpen the home side’s focus and intensity.
From that point on, the match was largely controlled by Wirral’s irresistible set-piece. The scrum in particular proved decisive, with Wirral winning an outstanding six scrums against the head and consistently driving the Chester pack backwards in a truly dominant performance. The lineout followed suit, providing clean, controlled ball and applying constant pressure that allowed Wirral to dictate territory and tempo throughout the contest.
While it was a tougher day in the office for the back line in terms of space, their effort and physicality were outstanding. Strong, direct running across the entire back division repeatedly punched holes in the Chester defence, allowing Wirral to overpower their opponents and turn forward dominance into points.
A huge congratulations go to Zane, who delivered an unquestioned Man of the Match performance, and to all of the Wirral Vikings, who truly stepped up and showcased the depth, strength and spirit of this squad.
