Wirral 2nd XV continued their unbeaten run with a comprehensive 56-6 victory over Crewe and Nantwich to progress to the semi-final of the cup. This now takes us to 7 wins out of 7 games and we have only conceded 1 try in the last 3 games.
I will keep this report, just like Jake, short and sweet. Just to dispel any rumours of ‘loading’, of the 18 players playing today 13 of them were the players who beat the same team 39-5 the previous week, 3 brought in from the 3’s (Laddle, Phelo and Corny) Ringer returning from University and Chris Speed who has only played 30 minutes all season. This resulted in 10 well worked tries.
Ben Brooks scooped man of the match with 4 tries, and there were further tries from Joe Paton, Mike Warren, Joe Adnams, Josh Connolly, Adam Sheldon, Tom Stevens. Josh Connolly adding three conversions. Tackle of the match to Josh Connolly for great bit of soft defence to then time his tackle perfectly resulting in a steal.
This was all in the space of 70 minutes as, due to the request of the opposition coach, the game was cut short as the result was beyond doubt.
As stated, this was another great performance by the team who are setting high standards and continuously improving week in and week out. It is great to see the boys putting in the performances they merit from their hard work in training.
It was great to see so many people down watching and cheering the boys on including first team coach Matt Cairns and a number of the first team.
When asked about his verdict of the game First team captain Craig Harvey stated ‘OMG, WOWZER, FANTASTIC, TERRIFIC PERFORMANCE GUYS’
The more intellectual brother Danny Harvey commenting ‘IT WAS GOOD’
First team coach Matt CAIRNS also saying ‘THAT WAS THE BEST RUGBY I HAVE SEEN ALL SEASON, WHERE YOU BOYS PLAYING NEXT WEEK?’
In all seriousness, it is great to see the second team mirroring the way the first team play and no doubt selection will be another headache on Tuesday with so many people impressing and others back available. It is a great headache to have.
Next week we welcome the visit of Warrington 2XV.
