Both teams came out of the blocks in the same gear, but it was Wirral who were the first to step up through the gears.
Clever all round play from forwards and backs alike saw James Spencer go over for the first score, Nick styles converted.
Soon after, a clever inside ball from James Spencer put winger Tom Franklin on his way to score under the posts. Nick Styles converted.
To round off the half, new boy on the block, winger Luke Gee caught an attempted clearance from just outside his own 22 from Anselmians and returned it with interest beating everyone twice to score his debut try under the posts ! (still needs to buy his team mates a jug for debut try)
Nick Styles converted (he also needs to buy a jug for last weeks debut try's.)
Half time score Wirral 21-0 Anselmians
Second half saw Wirral slip out of top gear and then set up camp in our own half due to constant pressure from Anselmians.
This was how the majority of the second half went, with constant pressure on the Wirral line and lack lustre defending saw Anselmians run a solid line and go over for their only score from a penalty given away from an infringement at a ruck.
This was the kick Wirral needed to step back up through the gears, with play quickly changing from our half over to theirs.
Clever forward play saw Wirral's emerging talent at 10, Nick Styles run a simple line and go over, but was deemed to be held up over the line. Wirral continued to press for the final 10 minutes and constant rucks on the Saints line finally resulted in a scrum. The dominant Wirral pack gave a simple but very effective lesson in scrummaging 5 metres out, the ever youthful Richard Ritchie holding the ball at the 8's feet for what almost felt like too long until Jeff Burgess picked up from 8 and crossed the line to round the game off and crowning his Man of the Match performance.
Final score
Wirral 28-7 Anselmians
