We managed to squeeze-in this last match before the Christmas break by taking an early KO. Some of the senior members of the Wirral squad decided that they should rest/evict themselves on this occasion but the guile of the Anselmian should not be underestimated!
The first task was a brief warm up and the pre-match Churchillian speech from Porky - You Are Live on Channel 4, Please Do Not Swear! From the kick off Wirral were tough up front and had the upper hand at the breakdown. There were a number of exchanges, excellently reffed, eventually leading to Wirral being camped on the Anselmian 5 metre line. With a training ground move from the line-out Harv forced his way over in the corner. Sean stood in as kicker and was left with a difficult angle which went just wide.
Now, those of you who follow this age group’s match reports will have read about how evil the Anselmians head coach, Jamie, is in previous despatches( please refer to the Kitten Strangling Incident in “May The Force Be With You” season 2011/2012) and for the purposes of this report we will refer to him as “Nasty Nick”. If you remember all those years ago, Nasty Nick, didn’t do anything illegal, he just didn’t play the game quite in the spirit it was intended. And so, Ansies took a quick re-start kick whilst the Wirral players were congratulating themselves on how they had dominated play so far. From this move they scored whilst Wirral were adjusting themselves. Ah well! Lesson learned! Shortly afterwards, they ran in another.
Wirral continued to dominate play early into the second half where, again, we had a line-out on their 5 metre line. This time it was the Niallator’s turn to force his way over in the corner, again leaving Sean with a difficult kick which went unconverted.
Shortly afterwards Wirral brought on fresh legs but unfortunately appeared to lose their rhythm defensively allowing “Big Brother” to run one in from his own half and another in the corner from their winger. Final score 22-10.
Whilst Jamie is known to be fairly evil, we actually like the Anselmians and if we could give a Christmas gift to anyone, it would be them. Happy Christmas Ansies!
Thank to Jamie and his coaches and players, thanks to the Ref who did a great job.
