Honours Even With Visiting Lymm

Andrew Broadbent

This week we welcomed Lymm, who brought a veritable army of well-drilled players and friendly supporters.

Overall we played 6 games and drew them all. Not sure of the odds of such a result and it did reveal that some of our squad have the multi-tasking ability to keep score and play.

Review of one of the teams below:

The games were very open, with Wirral pushed to the limit just to compete. It was great to see so many of the players making a big impact on the game, with Dan scoring 4 tries across the three games he played, and Matty making a number of acrobatic and try-saving tags, as well as making great ground with the ball, and scoring a try. Ben S was evident in a lot of Wirral's best work and coordinated play well in addition to scoring, and Alfie was incredibly busy, both in defence and with the ball in hand. Jack was able to inject vital pace into so many Wirral attacks, and scored numerous tries, whilst Dylan collected his usual high number of tags and also contributed some vital tries with his speed out wide.

In each of the games, Lymm appeared to have the edge, only for Wirral to gain parity as they persevered with attempts to pass the ball. Not exactly Harlem Globetrotteresque but slowly our game is developing skills and movement to combat organised defences. All three games ended as 6-6 draws, which might be down to a rather relaxed approach to score-keeping, as much as it was down to the closeness of the play.
