Wirral Ladies Earn Hard-fought Victory at Ormskirk

Andrew Broadbent31 Mar - 12:34

Wirral Ladies produced a determined, all-round team performance to secure a 12–5 victory in challenging conditions.

The first half was played in wet and windy weather, with Wirral facing the elements and having to dig deep early on. Despite the difficult conditions, they struck first after 10 minutes with a moment of individual brilliance. Leanne collected the ball and sliced through the Ormskirk defence, evading four would-be tacklers before stepping the fullback and touching down under the posts. Ellen added the conversion to give Wirral a deserved early lead.
Ormskirk responded well, using the conditions to their advantage and building sustained pressure. Their efforts paid off around the 20-minute mark when they crossed for a try to narrow the gap, making it 7–5 at the break.
With the wind now in their favour, Wirral started the second half strongly and extended their lead with another standout moment. Debutant Georgia announced herself in style, breaking from deep inside her own half and sprinting 65 metres to score a superb solo try, pushing the score to 12–5.
From there, Wirral showed great composure and resilience, combining solid defence with controlled attacking phases to see out the match. It was an impressive team performance against a strong Ormskirk side, who deserve credit for the progress they’ve made in rebuilding their squad over the past two seasons.
A well-earned win for Wirral, built on grit, teamwork, and moments of real quality.
